ESP engineering resources: the methods behind the specifications

Arrow Energy publishes its engineering openly: the Deutsch-Anderson and Matts-Öhnfeldt sizing methods behind every ESP proposal, the economizer arithmetic behind every retrofit claim, a 30-term glossary, and project references recorded in mg/Nm³ at stated O₂. A specification that survives scrutiny does not need to hide its method.

01 — Why open

Specifications survive scrutiny; adjectives do not

The engineering behind every Arrow proposal is published here, worked examples included.

Most equipment suppliers publish brochures and keep the sizing method to themselves. Arrow Energy Co., Ltd. does the reverse. The Deutsch-Anderson relation that sizes every electrostatic precipitator, the Matts-Öhnfeldt correction used for real polydisperse dust, the economizer heat balance behind every boiler performance retrofit claim — all of it is on these pages with the worked design-basis numbers attached: SCA 75.7 s/m, 3,888 m² of collecting area, 24 mg/Nm³ at 6 % O₂ dry.

Why publish the calculation methods openly?

Because the methods are not the advantage — executing them is. Publishing η = 1 − exp(−wA/Q) with worked numbers lets a plant engineer check any supplier's ESP quotation, including Arrow's, in ten minutes. A quotation whose arithmetic cannot be reproduced from its own stated figures is the one to question. Specifications survive scrutiny; that is what they are for.

The same standard applies to evidence. Project outcomes are recorded in a fixed nine-field format with emissions in mg/Nm³ at stated O₂, and customers are named only with written permission — the policy is stated in full on the project references page.

Engineering questions, answered

Why does Arrow Energy publish its calculation methods?

Because buyers should be able to check the arithmetic. The Deutsch-Anderson equation, the SCA figures and the economizer heat balance behind Arrow proposals are on the tools page with worked design-basis numbers — 75.7 s/m, 24 mg/Nm³ at 6 % O₂ dry. A supplier whose sizing cannot be reproduced is asking for trust it has not earned.

Can I use the published tools to check a competitor's ESP quotation?

Yes — that is an intended use. Back-calculate the effective migration velocity from the quoted collecting area, gas flow and promised outlet; if it needs more than the 4–15 cm/s range typical of biomass fly ash, the quote is optimistic. The method and the worked example are on the calculators page.

Are the reference figures on this site guaranteed performance?

No. Published figures are design-basis or measured values on a stated basis — mg/Nm³ at reference O₂, dry — and the basis is always given. Guaranteed figures are stated per project after the technical assessment. Reference records name customers only with written permission; otherwise they are anonymised by class and country.
